Severe traumatic brain injury
Severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) is frequent in Switzerland ; the estimated incidence is about 10 cases / 100’000 population / year (~ 715 patients / year) ; some authors considers that’s a silent epidemy. TBI is the most frequent cause of death in child and young adult ; it represents the major cause of mortality in traumatology. About 40% of cases relate to road traffic accidents.
